For those not brought up/raised or living in Scotland.

How much Scottish History is taught in Schools where you live?

How interested were you when you were at School? or if still at School, is it a subject you are learning? Want to learn?
(and I don't mean Holywood's versions).

How far back does your knowledge of Scotland go?

Hello Seil
My name is Julie and I am from the USA. I am sad to say that I have moved alot in the United States as a child and now I am married to a Air Force guy for 10 years now. Never growing up or even now that I have a son in school (3rd grade) have I ever learned about your country. It wasn't till my husband asked the question of, "if you could choose to travel outside of the US, where would you go? After looking for awhile on the internet, I found that I was always ending up back on Scotland sites. My husband does get to travel outside the US alot and before we were married I traveled alot in the US. Your counrty has so much history and historial buildings that I find I just cannot get board with it. Would love any personal info you might like to share. I also have a pen pal that lives in Culross and I would love to visit someday.
Thank you for your time

Julie,

Words alone cannot convey how special Scotland is, nor pictures, nor song. One can never do better than experience it. Do you not have any Scottish Ancestry? Have you researched your family history at all? Were you to find you had some Scottish connections you possibly would make a point of visiting here. Then and only then would you be able to really 'get a taste' of this wonderful country.

Sometimes our likes and dislikes come from comparisons between say where we are and somewhere else, and also our individual tastes and someone elses - I for one don't have a clue as to what your individual likes and dislikes are. I'd be surprised if there weren't parts of the USA that weren't special to you.

I hope some of my photos convey what my preferences are.

Seil.

Hello Seil,
I am an older Vermonter and was raised in an area that was just growing. As a child, I grew up singing many Scottish songs in grade school but was never taught much in the history and culture of Scotland. There is a town in Vermont called Caledonia, Latin for Scotland. It is a shame that there was such a strong influence of Scotland, in the area, but so little was taught.
Now, as I hear the songs, it brings back many happy childhood memories.

Lori

Now, I long to learn more
